Characters are broken up into ranks based on their shamanistic ability and power. The method of reaching the next rank is decided by two things. One is the number of shamanistic skills the character has mastered. The other is a test administered by the Patch tribe. This is usually a match against a pre-selected instructor, but it can also be something far different.

The ranks are as follows:

Novice Shaman
New to the world of shamanism, novices are the weakest of the bunch. They've either just learned of their powers or are just not good enough to pass on to full shaman status.

Mana: 100
Skill Ranks: E and D
Skill Limit: 10
Spirit Pact Limit: 1
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 0

Five E Rank and one D Rank skill are required to take the test to reach the rank of...

Shaman
A full fledged shaman in every way. If the Shaman Fight were going on, a shaman of this rank and higher would be allowed to participate. Once a shaman reaches this rank, their power and skill will have grown enough for them to form their first over soul.

Mana: 150
Skill Ranks: E, D, and C
Skill Limit: 20
Spirit Pact Limit: 1
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 1

Six D Rank skills, one C Rank Skill, and an over soul (or class equivalent skill if your class doesn't use over souls) is required to take the test to reach the rank of...

Advanced Shaman
A who reaches this rank is on their way to becoming known for their prowess. Their power grows even more and they can create an even stronger over soul (or class equivalent) and also form a pact with a second spirit.

Mana: 200
Skill Ranks: E, D, C and B
Skill Limit: 30
Spirit Pact Limit: 2
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 2

Six C Rank skills, one B Rank Skill, and two over souls (or class equivalent skill if your class doesn't use over souls) is required to take the test to reach the rank of...

Expert Shaman
On the verge of being truly powerful, a shaman of this rank can conjure three over souls and, if they fight wisely, maybe even match the best of the best in combat.

Mana: 250
Skill Ranks: E, D, C, B, and A
Skill Limit: 40
Spirit Pact Limit: 2
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 3

Six B Rank skills, one A Rank Skill, and three over souls (or class equivalent skill if your class doesn't use over souls) is required to take the test to reach the rank of...

Master Shaman
A shaman that has nearly reached the heights of their skills. Not many even make it this far, but there is still one rank higher to obtain.

Mana: 300
Skill Ranks: E, D, C, B, A, and S
Skill Limit: 50
Spirit Pact Limit: 3
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 4

Six A Rank skills, one S Rank Skill, and four over souls (or class equivalent skill if your class doesn't use over souls) is required to take the test to reach the rank of...

Grand Master Shaman
Only a handful exist in the world. Their power seems to exist only in legend. Only Grand Master Shamans are even considered to form pacts with the great Elemental Spirits, the five spirits who are only surpassed by the Great Spirit himself. Still, shamans of this rank are nothing to the Shaman King.

Mana: 350
Skill Ranks: E, D, C, B, A, S, and X
Skill Limit: 60
Spirit Pact Limit 4
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 5

Shaman King
Known as a god to those who are aware if their existence. The Shaman King is all knowing, all seeing, and all powerful. A tournament is held once every 500 years to determine the next king and the new Shaman Fight is coming up soon.

Mana: 1,000
Skill Ranks: E, D, C, B, A, S, X, and Z
Skill Limit: 100
Spirit Pact Limit: 10
Over Soul Limit Per Spirit: 10
